The Syracuse Orange dropped out of the No. 1 position in NCAA College Basketball rankings this week, down to No. 3.
As the NCAA Tournament approaches, here’s a review of the rich history of the “Orangemen.”
One thing’s for sure: Syracuse is no stranger to the NCAA tournament.
The college basketball team is classified in the NCAA’s Division 1 and the team competes in the Big East Conference each year. This basketball team has established a well known name as the fifth most winning men’s Division 1 team of all time. They currently hold a 39 NCAA consecutive winning season record.
In their 34th year as a team, they rallied up a 32-30 winning season including 8 Big East championships. The head coach of Syracuse Orange is the well known and respected Jim Boeheim. Some of the top players that have played for Syracuse have been Rony Seikaly, Vic Hanson, Billy Owens, Billy Gabor, and Dwayne “Pearl” Washington. Some notable players that have come out of Syracuse and now play for the NBA are Carmelo Anthony, Donte Green, Etan Thomas, Jonny Flynn, and Jason Hart.
With three appearances in the national title game, Syracuse won it all in 2003 when they defeated Kansas. Syracuse Orange continues to be a strong, vibrant team which plays some solid basketball and continues to produce stars. The future looks to be very bright to this young team with new players. With Boeheim at the helm, the full court fast paced team has done very well this year and is considered to still be one of the nation’s best college NCAA Division 1 teams of all time.
